Composition
CREST HAIR is made from the following two ingredients
1.    Gossypium Herbaceum fibers 
2.    Natural mineral-based colorants.

Gossypium Herbaceum Fibers

Gossypium Herbaceum (also known as Levant cotton, shown left) is a plant.

Fibers from this plant have surface optical properties that are very similar to human hair. This is one of the reasons why CREST HAIR gives users a perfectly natural look. Gossypium Herbaceum fibers tend to be negatively charged while human hair tends to be positively charged. Therefore CREST HAIR fibers bond to your hair 200% stronger than regular hair building fibers.

Natural Mineral-Based Colorants

Gossypium Herbaceum is grayish white. The fibers can be dyed into various colors to match human hair colors. Thanks to the micro-structure of Gossypium Herbaceum, its fibers can be easily dyed with mineral-based colorants - iron oxides that are harvested from nature.

Why CREST HAIR is Superior

There are three major problems with the regular hair building fibers in the mass market.

Problem 1 - Excessive amount of fibers may fall out when it is exposed to the wind and/or rain, and/or when you lay your head on a couch or pillow.

To "solve" this problem, consumers were told to use a spray (essentially a glue) to "lock it in". The spray glue does not really solve the problem, a duct tape solution at best, not to mention that the spray glue makes your hair extremely stiff and cause irritation to your scalp. The root cause of this problem is the weak bonding force between the fibers and hair as you know that regular hair thickening fibers are made from wool (sheep's hair). Both wool and human hair tend to be positively charged, they do not bond well with each other. Therefore, such fibers fall off easily from your hair.

Problem 2 – Dull looking hair

Basically, there are two approaches to eliminate the appearance of hair loss 

1. Thickening hair to amplify hair volume, making scalp invisible or 
2. Coloring the exposed scalp to match the hair color. This technique does hide the bald spots, but it does not increase hair volume 

Experienced theatrical and Hollywood movie makeup artists will tell you that the first approach will give the best and more natural result, while the second approach will produce very dull and a less natural look. Again because of the weak bonding between wool fibers and human hair, most fibers fall onto the scalp, instead of thickening hair. Therefore, with regular hair building fiber, you are actually coloring your scalp (the second approach as mentioned above), resulting in dull-looking hair. Problem 3 - Regular hair building fibers contain ingredients that may be harmful to your scalp

Other hair fiber products are made from wool (hair from animals), which is difficult to dye. Wool must first be processed with harsh chemicals (bleaches) before being dyed with synthetic pigments, which are the same hair dyes used in human hair-coloring products.
